This past week was Mental Health Awareness Week, and the theme for this year is about Body Image, this will be our main theme for the year.
It's only recently I've confronted my own issues about my body. For years now I've generally focused on wearing either black clothing, or tops which are baggy because I was ashamed about my body. I'd been mistreating it. After my mum died in 2017 as much as I exercised food was what I resorted to when I started feeling bad. Then as the weight started piling on this just made matters worse, I wasn't just feeling depressed about my loss, those same feelings extended to my own body, and it started becoming a cycle. It wasn't the first time I had been on this hamster wheel, but it was the first time recently that I decided that I had to confront my own feelings about my body. Hopefully you might have read my blog post about it, you can find this HERE.
I'd like to kick off the discussion around Body Image by asking what is your relationship like with your own body? How do you think we can promote a better relationship with our bodies?
